Mites and Tites

GOOD NEWS FOR ARMCHAIR CAVERS: A recent article in the New Scientist claims that "Radon gas in Britain's caves is exposing thousands of potholers and other cave users to levels of radiation up to 800 times the official safety limit in homes". According to PhD student Robert Hyland from the Limestone Research Group of Manchester Polytechnic, "Our calculations indicate that this limit could be exceeded by as little as 43 hours underground in any one year".

ADOPT-A-CAVE: In a similar scheme to the one run by Descent, a party of French school children recently cleaned up a cave in Southern France. However, they were not thanked for their work as it later transpired that the graffiti they washed off the walls were in fact prehistoric cave paintings.
