It should be noted that a severe roof fall has occurred in this stone quarry. Marden has never been a very safe area to visit as some sections are known to be very unstable. The fall is near the entrance along the left hand gallery where several have already taken place over the years.

It should be remembered that the stone will absorb water up to 30% of it's weight and that due to the vast amount of rain that we have had over the last twelve months the roof blocks have become wetter and therefore heavier and are no longer able to support themselves.

It is being suggested that the taking of novice groups into this series should be curtailed for a period until such a time as it is considered that Marden has stabilised itself again.
